Ed Russell, the ToyBum and H.J. Marseille's 1940 109E

#192 - Price: $

Ed Russell (owner: Russell Group Aviation, standing right side) and the ToyBum discuss H.J. Marseille's 1940/41 number's matching Battle of Britain Me/Bf-109E. ~ Marseille belly-landed this 109 (when it was in it's original E-1 configuration) on a beach near Calais, France, during the height of the Battle of Britain; Summer 1940. Retrieved and repaired by the Luftwaffe from Marseille's "wheels-up" landing near Calais, it was modified from its E-1 configuration to an E-4. Used the following year (not by Marseille, of course) in the German invasion of Russia in 1941, it was later abandoned in Russia. Found there in 1990, it was brought back to the USA and authentically restored to flyable condition. It's now owned and operated by The Russell Group in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. Yes, the sound of this 109E-4's DB-601 motor (when flying) is extremely unique, to say the least. ~ Please click on the ToyBum's Private Gallery, near the right side bottom on the ToyBum's Home Page.
